Relaxing off-road cycling from Sandy to Bedford
National Cycle Route 51 takes you out of Shefford to Sandy and/or Bedford.
The University Way as the whole route is called starts from Campbell Park in the middle of Milton Keynes, passes through quiet villages and gentle countryside up to Bedford.
The 8 mile, generally flat, trail then follows the River Ouse embankment near the centre of Bedford, into the relaxing Priory Country Park and Nature Reserve at Cardington.
On leaving Bedford, you pass through peaceful and picturesque villages and the expansive countryside of North Bedfordshire on to Sandy, with its RSPB nature reserve headquarters.
The full University Way route covers: Milton Keynes-Wavendon-Salford-Cranfield-Marston Moretaine-Wootton-Kempston-Bedford-Willington-Blunham-Sandy
