The old forge belonged to Mr Bird and to his father before him. Many residents of Shefford will remember watching him shoe a horse. He was always ready to welcome those interested in his work.
As well as being used for farrier’s work the forge has, in the past, been a wheelwright’s as well and outside it is still possible to see the circle where the rim was fitted onto the wheel.
The forge is not there anymore but is kept alive in spirit by local stories and by Clark McGregor's photographs.
